Security Challenge

Solar farms are often sited in rural areas. As emergency service response is typically slower for these locations, they are a target for organised criminal activity, and in particular, the theft of the valuable metals and other materials used in solar panels and substations. Disruption caused by illegal scrapping operations will typically result in an interruption of the power supply and the need for expensive repairs.

Protecting power generation sites is essential to ensure continued energy supply to the national grid and to block intruders, including vandals and thieves. This requires the installation of robust security mechanisms at the perimeter and inside facilities.

Gates & Fences

Visible CCTV and security patrols can deter trespassers, but this may not always be an option on remote sites. They may require measures such as high security gates, fences, and barriers to block vehicles and pedestrians.

Surelock McGill offers single-point and multi-point locking mechanisms for external swing and sliding gate security applications. Access control functionality is available for the majority of our products, enabling local and remote access for gate opening.

Modular Buildings & Control Rooms

Modular buildings can provide a safe location for control rooms and the housing of valuable equipment, such as batteries and switchgear. These enclosures may require acoustic or anti-flood properties, as well as resistance to forced entry. Securing units with high-performance locking systems will prevent intruders from easily accessing these critical assets and ensure the secure operation of power generation sites.

Surelock McGill’s high-performance solutions are designed to provide enhanced security protection and reliable operation while considering requirements such as controlled entry, life safety egress, and fire containment.

Our fire containment locking systems are built to ensure complete air-tight sealing of doors when fire extinguishing gases are used to put out fires, reducing the potential for the electricity supply to be disrupted.

Our products are tested to 1,000,000 cycles and hold a range of international certifications for resistance to blast, ballistic, and forced entry threats and for life safety. We also offer hardware that is suitable for safely releasing doors in pressurised environments.

In addition, our high-security louvre systems contribute to the hardening of HVAC systems, where ventilation is required. These louvre systems can be incorporated into a door system or installed within the building fabric.
