Surelock McGill products are used in tunnels around the world and are manufactured from stainless steel to ensure their durability in highly corrosive environments. Within these environments, our high-performance access solutions require a combination of features to ensure reliable operation. At the same time, they can withstand the high pressures that result from high-speed tunnel traffic. Read on to learn more about our tunnel infrastructure solutions.

Fire & Life Safety
High-risk applications such as road and rail tunnels require fast evacuation routes to allow individuals to quickly reach safety. However, threats may arise on either side of the tunnel door. Because of this, it is essential to allow for panic egress in both directions with single-handed, cross-passage escape hardware to protect members of the public (EN 1125) and personnel (EN 179) in the event of an emergency. Below are some of our fire and life safety solutions best suited for use in tunnel infrastructure.
A highly reliable, cross-passage door bolting system that operates in both directions.

Aluminium Panic Bar
The aluminium panic bar is an ideal and cost effective solution where emergency escape hardware is needed, however high-pressure resistance is not a priority.

Round Stainless-Steel Panic Bar
As an alternative panic device, the round stainless steel panic bar is suitable for use in high-corrosive environments and on high pressure doors, particularly important in traffic tunnels where train pressures are high. The rounded tubular design reduces the chance of the bar being depressed when exposed to a high pressure.

High-performance, heavy-duty vision panels that are resistant to blast, ballistic, and forced entry attacks.
Tunnel Pressures
As trains and traffic have continued to run faster, pressure waves associated with passing vehicles are becoming increasingly important to consider when specifying access hardware. Below are some of our high-pressure environment access solutions.

Hinges that lift when the door opens and drop on closure, supporting the functionality of sealed door systems in high-pressure environments.

Sliding Door
When tunnel pressures are high and space is limited, sliding doors can often be the ideal solution for providing access between tunnels for personnel and the public. A sliding door can combat the risk of doors swinging out due to changing pressure forces in tunnels and ensure access areas are not obstructed.
Electronic Solutions
Electronic locking solutions are an effective solution for monitoring and controlling doors across multiple tunnels from a single control room.
Access Control
Access control allows doors to be restricted to approved personnel and for auditing of who has accessed an area and when. Alongside this, security teams are able to monitor the bolt and deadlock status of locking systems from the control room and ensure all doors are closed securely, without having to travel the length of the tunnel to manually check individual doors.
Motorised Locks
Remote control or access control operation via card, pin, or push button that also offers security, ballistic, and blast resistance in a single product. When used in conjunction with a motorised door actuator, the opening and closing of the door can be automated.
Single Points
For doors that require a robust, single-point locking solution.
