Industries such as oil, gas, power generation, national infrastructure, defence, and healthcare are at risk of severe weather and security threats and may otherwise need to manage control of pressurised environments.
Physical security solutions must successfully combine environmental control, life safety, and physical protection to defend these locations and keep gas-tight doors sealed and secure.
Our locking systems and ancillaries are designed to provide fully optimised sealing and reliable protection against a wide range of challenges.

Risks
Surelock McGill’s sealed door offerings address a wide range of risks:

Flood risks
Controlling and preventing water leaks is essential for locations where flooding and natural disasters such as typhoons are a possibility. Sealing solutions must provide airtight closure to keep people and assets safe from water ingress. Using our products can help to protect property and save lives.

Acoustic insulation
Modern health and safety legislation requires businesses in heavy manufacturing, oil, gas, power generation, and other industries to provide suitable sound attenuation measures to protect staff, equipment/assets, residents, and wildlife. Our solutions help reduce sound transfer and enhance privacy in areas where sensitive matters may be discussed.

Positive & negative pressure control
Industries such as healthcare, chemical processing, and data centres may have positive and negative pressure differentials between rooms and environments. Positive pressure means pressure is higher inside the containment area than outside and will not be balanced until air flows out. Negative pressure is created when air volume is displaced, and new air needs to flow in to balance the environment. These locations require airtight seals to control air pressure and prevent the exchange of gases.

Harsh environments & weathering
Whether the environmental challenge is coastal, offshore, polar, desert-based, or otherwise, businesses require solutions to protect against the elements. Our sealed door range helps to maintain a clean and safe environment that can resist extreme conditions, including storms, heavy rain, freezing temperatures, and more. Stainless steel ensures long-lasting protection against the harshest environments and resistance against corrosion damage.

Tunnel Networks
Rail and transportation tunnels present a unique challenge, as doors must resist continuous dynamic pressure shifts while allowing staff and passengers to swiftly escape in an emergency. Hardware for this use case may also require bidirectional escape, fire protection, and security features to prevent trespassing and to resist vandalism and severe blast, ballistic, and forced entry attacks.
Our sealed door solutions combine outstanding endurance, reliable security, and guaranteed life safety escape for challenging tunnel installations.
.
With over 60 years of manufacturing experience in the most demanding environments, we engineer solutions to offer reliable defence and safe escape, no matter the location.

Slimline Multi-Point Locking Systems
Our Slimline system is a modular multi-point locking solution, with additional bolts and keeps available for improved sealing performance. Bolts can be installed as required across the centre, top, and bottom positions or the hinge side of the door to assist in spreading the seal compression more evenly across the whole door. This will help to stop flood, fire, gas, and acoustic leakage. The Slimline range caters to a wide range of operational requirements for entry and egress, including:
- 12V DC or 24V DC access control
- Motorised locking and bolt retraction
- Bolt and lock status monitoring
- Visual indicators
- Fail safe and fail secure during power failure

Coniston
Heavy-duty solutions with enhanced security performance, such as the Coniston, provide robust and reliable protection for oversized and sliding doors in locations where blasts, acoustic threats, floods, and uneven pressure put daily processes at risk.
The locking system’s variable bolt throw offers versatility and resistance to withstand extreme blast pressures. The standard bolt engagement with a 90° throw protects against unauthorised entry and hazardous conditions. Turning the handle to a 180° throw will increase the bolt engagement to its maximum to resist higher blast threats and keep occupants safe from the pressure of larger explosions. To further support this, the Coniston’s bolts can be enhanced with tapers for improved sealing performance.

2-Stage Stepped Keeps System
Our two-step entry system is designed with life safety in mind. It allows the user to release a door to a room with high internal pressure (positive pressure) by providing a controlled and safe method of entry.
First Movement
Pulling the lever handle down halfway retracts the bolts, allowing the door to partially open and excess pressure to escape. The bolts are held at this rest position on the stepped keeps, preventing the door from opening further.
Second Movement
This is a two-handed operation. The first step is to press the button above the lever handle, which then allows the handle to be further rotated. When fully rotated, the bolts will retract from the keeps, and the door can be opened. This design reduces the risk of opening the door whilst it is under pressure and causing potential harm to the people entering.

Pressure Relief Keeps
Our pressure relief keeps serve a dual purpose. Firstly, they securely lock doors, sealing positive-pressure environments to prevent accidents. If the positive pressure in the room builds up to too high a level, the keeps will fail in a controlled manner to allow the door to swing open. This functionality will help to minimise explosions and the risk of higher-scale blasts by venting the room when a threshold is reached. This can be advantageous for applications involving hydrogen, for example.
The pressure relief keeps are individually manufactured to suit the pressure requirements of each application.

Panic and Emergency Actuators
Our life safety devices are tested and certified to EN 1125, EN 179, and UL 305 to provide safe escape routes and keep the premises secure in the event of a panic or an emergency situation. The Surelock McGill range is available with several single and multi-point options to provide easy-to-use egress for any location:
- Panic bar (blade)
- Panic bar (tube)
- Push pad
- Emergency lever

Hinges
Doors need enough pressure from momentum to close without leaving a gap. Our hinge range includes both cam lift and lift-off hinges, providing a solution for every requirement. Fitted tightly to the door leaf, our cam lift hinges allow doors to lift up and lower down on closure, shutting fully and reducing the risk of leakage and wear and tear on the seal. Designed to recess into the door and frame, our lift-off hinges support heavy doors up to 350 kg (770 lbs). Engineered for high-pressure environments, they enable easy installation in challenging and confined spaces.
Support Hinges
Fitted at the top and bottom of the door, our support hinges are designed to be combined with our HC44 Cam Lift Hinges to provide lateral support while the door is rising and falling.

Tapered Bolt Ends & Tapered Keeps
Our tapered bolt ends assist in pulling the door into the frame in a high-pressure environment. They also evenly apply compression to the seals around the door edge. The bolt ends are typically used on outward-opening doors, where the frame is deep enough for the bolts to engage into a keep.
We also offer tapered keeps to provide an equivalent alternative.

Cylinder Guards
Our cylinder guards enhance security for locations where uncompromised entry and exit are non-negotiable. The range has been developed and continuously improved to protect against multiple threats, including manipulation, bumping, fire, and ballistic, blast, and forced entry attacks. Our solutions have been tested and certified to a range of standards (as part of a complete doorset, where relevant), including LPS 1175, EN 1627, FEBR, BS EN 1522/1523, UL 752, ASTM F2927, EN 1634-1.
The range includes:
- GSS2 / GSS3
- GSS4
- GSS5
- GSS7
